Fred Hammond
Fred Hammond has won a number of Dove awards and even a Grammy over the many hears he has been singing Gospel Music.
Musically, Fred Hammond started out as a very talented bassist. He played bass for the gospel group The Winans back in 1980s. In 1982 he teamed up with five other Detroit-based musicians to form a group called Commissioned. Fred Hammond, Mitchell Jones, Keith Staten, Karl Reid, Michael Brooks, and Michael Williams were the original members of the gospel super-group. Their first album I'm Going On was released in 1985. That was followed by Go Tell Somebody (1986), On The Winning Side (1987), Will You Be Ready? (1988), Ordinary Just Won't Do (1989), State of Mind (1990) and Number 7 (1991).
In 1991 Fred Hammond made his first solo album, I Am Persuaded, backed by a Gospel chior called Radical For Christ. That was followed by Deliverance in 1993, then The Inner Court (1995). Meanwhile he could still be heard on the Commissioned albums Matters of the Heart (1994) and Gospel Greats (1995).
His next solo album The Spirit of David (1996) went gold. Then Pages of Life: Chapters 1&2 (1998) went double platinum. That was followed by Purpose By Design (2000), In Case You Missed It...And Then Some (2001) and a seasonal album called Christmas...Just Remember.
In 2002 Fred Hammond produced and recorded a Commissioned reunion album called The Commissioned Reunion Live. He would do another Commissioned record in 2006 called Praise & Worship. Meanwhile his solo carreer marched on with Speak Those Thing: Pages of Life Chapter 3 (2002), Hooked on the Hits (2003), Somethin 'Bout Love (2004), Free to Worship (2006) and Love Unstoppable (2009).
Fred Hammond's latest album God, Love & Romance was released January 31, 2012.
