Grande Prairie Getting Ready for Winter

Posted by Terry Van Veen  |  POST A COMMENT

Robert Carroll, Transportation Services Manager, stands on top of the mountain of sand that staff will use on City streets this winter season.  “We normally use about 6000 tonnes of sand each winter, and most of it is used at major intersections and other problem icy areas” says Carroll.  The lack of winter conditions well into November for Grande Prairie is unusual, but Carroll says it is welcome.  “Our winter schedule usually does not begin until after the Remembrance Day Holiday, but we always aim to have our equipment, staff and material ready to go by the last week of October.”  Carroll also want to remind everyone to make sure their vehicles are ready to go for winter driving conditions that are sure to eventually arrive.
