Shortcuts Don't Always Pay Off

Canadian sailor Paul Lim, rescued yesterday off Australia's coast, admitted he took a risk in an effort to get home quickly. Lim says he tried to go from South Africa to Canada non-stop in the Southern Ocean, but ran into vicious winter weather. The engine on his yacht broke away as he battled 10-metre waves and winds of 50 kilometres per hour. Lim was not hurt but his sinking yacht has been abandoned.
