It's a Mess in Orbit

In the 54 years since the space age began, space junk has made such a mess of Earth's orbit that experts say we may need to finally think about cleaning it up. The chairman of a panel looking into the problem says that may mean vacuuming up debris with cosmic versions of nets, magnets and giant umbrellas.
Retired NASA scientist Donald Kessler says there are 22-thousand objects in orbit big enough to track from the ground and countless smaller ones that could damage spaceships and valuable satellites.
