Remembering our Warriors

From October 25th at 8AM through November 5th at 12PM

A family member mourning the loss of four high school football players in Grande Prairie thanked people for their support during a public memorial service. Darren Davidson's stepson Walter Borden-Wilkins was killed in last weekend's crash near Grande Prairie. He told the memorial service Sunday (Oct 30) at the Crystal Centre it made his family feel a bit better knowing they were in everyone's thoughts and prayers. A choir in black robes with orange ribbons over their hearts performed at the service. Orange is the colour of the uniforms of the GP Comp Warriors, which is the team the boys played for. The players were killed on Oct. 22 when a pickup truck slammed into their car near Grande Prairie. A man has been charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear in court today (Oct 31).

With 1500 community supporters, the GP Comp Warriors defeated Sexsmith 40-0 on Saturday (Oct 29) at Legion Field. The Warriors will now take on Peace River on Saturday (Nov 5) at 2pm in the "Peace Bowl". Peace Wapiti was defeated 38-20 by Valleyview. Valleyview will be facing St. Joe's in the Athabasca Bowl on Friday (Nov 4) at the St. Joe's football field.

You can make donations for the families affected by the October 22nd tragedy at the Royal Bank in Grande Prairie and at the Public School District office downtown. Donations for Zach Judd, the lone survivor of last weekend's crash, can be made at BMO in Grande Prairie and Valleyview.

Many local GP businesses are holding fund-raisers for the families affected by this tragedy.

You can now get orange t-shirts with the GP Comp Warriors logo and a ribbon to support the Memorial Fund. All monies raised from the shirts at Playfair Athletics will be going to the fund.
